Vocal recording

Two vocal booths, an engineer who listens with you, and time to build takes without rushing — that is how Vocal recording works at Sipopojexadvisory on Ruyschstraat 14 in Amsterdam-Oost.

Singer in a vocal booth with microphone and engineer behind glass.

Your voice is the first thing listeners notice and the last thing they forgive when it is off. In our booths you hear breath, articulation and pitch without masking, which is why every session starts with microphone, headphone mix and tempo before we chase quantity.

Bring a finished instrumental, a project from your home setup, or lyrics and a guide track only. We work with singers, rappers, voice-over for video, backing vocals and demos. Minimum age 16; younger artists need agreement with a parent or guardian under terms and conditions.

How it works

  1. Intake

Send your instrumental, lyrics and references ahead via email. We reply within 2 business days and hold the booth once the 30% deposit is paid.

  2. Setup

Microphone choice, pop-filter distance, headphone mix and click or guide. Allow fifteen to twenty minutes before the first take counts.

  3. Record

Full passes, then targeted redos. We flag strong takes in the session so you do not replay everything at the end.

  4. Handover

Comping on request, WAV export the same day when time allows. Session files stay 12 months; see session files and rights.

Who this service fits

Solo artists finishing a single, rappers planning an EP, bands adding lead and backing after a live session, songwriters who need a clean demo for publishers — our 2 vocal booths are tight enough for focus and large enough to stand or sit comfortably. Spoken voice for ads, explainers or internal training works here too if you share the script early so booth time goes to performance, not rewriting.

We operate 3 rooms at one address; the live floor of about 28 m² is not the default for vocals but is available if you later move to a band setup. See services and FAQ for the full picture.

Booth, microphones and engineer

The booth is treated dry so reverb and delay can live in the mix without the room ringing along. We draw from 24 microphones and often compare two models on the same verse at the start — condenser for detail, dynamic for loud rap or close tones. You listen in the control room and we decide together.

The engineer at the desk is usually Maarten van Dijk or a colleague from our team of three. They handle routing, backups and levels; you save energy for the take. Ask for feedback on timing or diction, or say you prefer to work without commentary.

Headphone mix and session flow

A clear cue mix stops you from singing too quietly or pushing too hard. You get an adjustable balance of guide, click and your own voice; many artists drop one earcup — tell us and we keep leakage low. 8 headphone sets are on hand; bring your own if you rely on them.

Breaks are part of the job: ten minutes of water and silence often beats ten mediocre takes. Hours: Monday–Friday 10:00–19:00, Saturday 11:00–17:00, Sunday closed.. Directions: From Wibautstraat metro station (M51, M53, M54) it is about an 8-minute walk via Wibautstraat and Linnaeusstraat. Trams 3 and 7 stop at Ruyschstraat, roughly 2 minutes on foot. The entrance is at street level next to the bicycle racks.. Questions beforehand: 020 244 1893 or contact.

Preparation and warm-up

Final lyrics, a known guide and tempo save studio hours. Hydration and rest beat last-minute hacks; vocal warm-up before recording walks through routines for the days and hours ahead. Avoid whispering to save your voice — it can add tension instead.

Bring lyrics on paper or tablet, optional reference tracks whose vocal tone you like, and your instrumental as WAV or AIFF. Send files early so the session opens ready when you walk in.

Delivery, formats and revisions

By default we deliver 24-bit WAV at 48 kHz, aligned from song start, with clear names per dub. Full session folders for your DAW are available by arrangement. A quick rough mix for home listening is possible when time allows; full mixing is a separate service with its own rates.

Comping and light edits within booked time are normal. Extra editing or pitch correction is agreed upfront. Mix revisions belong under mixing; for recording itself, book enough time so quality does not get squeezed.

FAQ

How much time do I need for one song?

For a three- to four-minute track with verses, chorus and a few doubles, two to four hours is typical depending on prep and how picky you are. A half day covers most solo projects; rap with many ad-libs may run longer.

Can I bring someone to the control room?

One or two guests is normal. Larger groups often distract; mention it on contact if you expect more people.

Do you mix as well?

Yes — mixing is booked separately per track or EP. You can mix elsewhere too; we export clearly named WAV files.

What if I am ill on session day?

Tell us as early as you can. Free reschedule up to 5 days ahead; later rules are in terms and conditions. With voice strain, postponing beats forcing takes.

Can mastering happen the same day?

Sometimes if the calendar allows. Mastering needs a finished mix; a separate slot with listening break usually works better.
